HOME GUARD MEMORIES AND INFORMATION - OTHER COUNTIES (F-L)
LONDON HOME GUARD

A  HISTORY OF
101 COUNTY OF LONDON HOME GUARD
AA ROCKET BATTERY - HYDE PARK

101 UP!

One of the most prominent Home Guard units in the country was - for obvious reasons - the Hyde Park Rocket Battery, the 101 County of London Home Guard, unofficially known as "The Hyde Park Gunners".

In February 1945 a short history of the unit was published under the title of "101 Up!"  It was written by Capt. G. J. Redgrove. Through the generosity of a visitor to this website it is possible for it to be read in its entirety on this page.

"101 Up!" is relatively rare in detailed Home Guard histories (which are themselves fairly few in number) in including a complete list of the unit's members. However, anyone seeking a name within the list should note that these are the members serving at stand-down in early December 1944 and that men who had also served but had left earlier are not included.
(Please see note below).

Please note: The list of Battery members in "101 Up!" does not include those men who also served but who left, mainly as the result of being called up, before disbandment of the battery. They too should be remembered: there is information on at least one of them elsewhere within this website, Harold Wybrow.

For other references within this website, including one excellent article on the operation of this equipment, go to Other Central London Information; and for all other references within this website to Home Guard rocket battery duties, please use the Website Search facility using the definition "Z Rocket Batteries")
